Want to rent an umbrella?

Welcome rainy season! I kinda like it, except for the wind. New Yorkers are usually prepared for the rain, everyone carries an emergency umbrella and don’t want to be caught unprepared. The thing is, lots of umbrellas go to waste and don’t survive the wind! Basically, 8 in every 10 umbrellas end up breaking and you have to run and buy another one.

But since NYC is the land of weird and convenient inventions, the new one is the BrellaBox. Yes, boxes around the city where you can rent umbrellas and drop of  at another box. This is how is going to work: they will install the first box end of May and are hoping to have at least 500 boxes around the city by 2015. You can rent an umbrella for $2.50 and use is for 12 hours or you can buy it for $15. All the umbrellas will be green and will have a tracking device. The idea is suppose be help the environment, too.

So, what do you think? Do you think it will work? Would you like to rent an umbrella?
